Frequently Asked Questions
Every decision that you make regarding your health care is important. Below are answers to some commonly asked questions about Acupuncture. If you don't see an answer to one of your questions or simply would like to talk to a practitioner, don't hesitate to call.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the insertion of sterile, hair thin needles into specific points on the body. By inserting needles into different areas, a Licensed practitioner sends specific messages to the body to help it readjust and rebalance the energetic pathways in the body. Acupuncture has been used for over 2000 years by people around the globe to help maintain health. Acupuncture used for musculoskeletal disorders can improve blood circulation to spasming or torn muscles, thus helping to re-establish necessary muscle tone. Increased blood supply nourishes these muscles and hence decreases pain. The insertion of an acupuncture needle creates a small micro-abrasion which notifies the body to trigger a healing response. Our bodies are capable of doing so much on their own.
Who performs the Acupuncture?
Suzanna J Blach, BSc (Hons), MBAcC, LicAc is a member of the British Acupuncture Council and is licensed by local councils to perform acupuncture. She has extensive training up to degree level in the Eastern and Western medical sciences and takes pride in offering comprehensive, results oriented treatments.
Does it hurt?
Most patients find that acupuncture is very relaxing and helps them achieve a deeper state of calm. Many patients fall asleep during their sessions and others feel energized. The needles are so fine that often there is no sensation on insertion and minimal discomfort if any during treatment. Acupuncture needles are not hollow like the needles used for other procedures. They are so fine that 20 of them fit inside a hypodermic needle. Acupuncture treatments often consist of other techniques that do not utilize needles. These include cupping, massage and acupressure.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of acupuncture treatments will depend on the acute or chronic nature of your health concern. Those conditions that are less severe will require less treatment time to gain results. For more long term health concerns, a regular treatment schedule will be recommended for continued progress. During your first visit, you can expect to get a better idea of what will work best for you and your specific condition.
How much does it cost?

What should I expect during my first treatment?
Initial treatments are approximately 1.5 hours and consist of a detailed health intake and consultation which addresses the entire person, an acupuncture session and any recommended nutritional therapies, supplements and changes to diet and lifestyle. We will cover all aspects of your physical, mental and emotional state of health. Bring a list of any medications or supplements you currently take. We utilize a tongue evaluation and pulse diagnosis to determine the body's state of health according to Chinese medical patterning. Based on this comprehensive information, a treatment plan is established. The acupuncture treatment will last about 30 minutes and will take place in a clean and private treatment room. Music is available for added relaxation. Breathing and relaxation techniques are used if the patient is suffering from stress and to enhance the acupuncture treatment. For women going through IVF, visualization techniques are employed to help relax during implantation and post transfer. Suzanna Blach is trained in using a variety of methods to relax the patient during treatment sessions and IVF treatment.
