SMOKING CESSATION
In 1985, the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) was established to promote education and training of clinicians in the use of Acudetox through the NADA five-point ear acupuncture protocol. The use of acupuncture for the treatment of drug and alcohol dependency (Acudetox) is a recent development in the history of this ancient art. For centuries, Asian cultures have placed needles in precise locations on the body to relieve pain and treat disease. Only since 1972, when a Hong Kong neurosurgeon, H.L Wen M.D., discovered that acupuncture could alleviate the symptoms of drug withdrawal, has this method been used for detoxification and relapse prevention.
Suzanna is fully trained in using the NADA Acudetox protocol and offers 2 types of treatment to suit you:
ACUDETOX SMOKING CESSATION PROGRAMME
This Programme involves 3 to 4 treatments at specific times over a month. A combination of Acudetox ear points and body points are used according to the patient’s specific needs and diagnosis. The intervals coincide with detoxification after 48 hours (50% of quitters restart smoking at this crucial point), and at day 7, plus a third treatment at day 14 when the detox is complete and habits need to be radically changed. The fourth treatment can be used if and when necessary at a later stage. If this session is not needed, it can be passed onto a friend or family member.
This specialised programme includes counselling and advice for effective smoking cessation and comes highly recommended. It is based on current research into nicotine addiction and smoking cessation. Treatment 1 is an hour long, followed by 45/50 minutes for sessions 2 to 4. A telephone assessment is required beforehand to ascertain a patient’s commitment to the programme, reasons for stopping smoking and a clear understanding of the specific requirements of the Acudetox Programme.
SINGLE ACUDETOX TREATMENT
This consists of a single treatment of one hour and includes the NADA Acudetox protocol, body points and advice/ counselling on effective smoking cessation. Any follow up treatments that may be needed are half hour sessions.
Please go to the FEES page for prices for the above programmes and treatments.
DO YOU SUFFER WITH BACK PAIN?
Does back pain stop you from doing the things you want to do?
Back pain is a major cause of ill health and time lost from work. The ‘orthodox’ treatments often have limited success and the NHS has identified back pain as a priority condition for research.
Within Chinese Medicine, all pain is caused by stagnation of energy, blood, or body fluids. Muscles are able to move energy and blood by contracting and relaxing. Many patients will come for treatment until they are pain free again and then stop treatment. It is common that the pain may return sometime in the future. This is fine provided that the patient is aware of this and receives treatment immediately.
The vast majority of back pain is musculoskeletal and responds very well with acupuncture. However, back pain may also be as a result of other conditions such as fibromyalgia which may also respond with acupuncture, but treatment may be more prolonged.
